Unhinged

(Piha Women’s Retreat)

We stagger across the beach
Like giggling school girls. Clad
In nightgowns. Feet bared.
Black sands between our toes;
Heavy with fatigue yet light
As champagne flutes; our pain
Released! The sea sweeps in
from our left. To the right, a
More-pork laments its name.
Calling us home. Wild Women.
Un-tethered. Unleashed. Quite.
Quite Unhinged. Returned to
Ourselves. At last.

Spirit date.

I went on a date with spirit,
Beneath a starry sky,
As she led me through the darkness,
Her beauty rent me shy.
Gilded by the crescent moon,
Dressed in a glittering gown,
She filled my heart with wonder,
Her breath the merest sound.
I heard her tinkling laughter,
As she slipped into the tide,
And though I lost her in the shadows,
She left her fragrance deep inside.

Unraveling the threads

I’m knotted up inside
knit one, purl one
As panic starts to rise
slip one, drop one
Tears betray my eyes
knit one, purl one
The child in me cries
slip one, drop one

It comes as no surprise
knit one, purl one
Fear is my disguise
slip one, drop one
My ego tries to hide
knit one, purl one
The truth of me inside
slip one, drop one

But damn it I shall try
knit one, purl one
To cast out every lie
slip one, drop one
And as my needles fly
knit one, purl one
Stitch love into the sky
slip one, drop one

Done.

A gift

There’s no poetry in my life
without you.
My muse, my light, my soul,
Where have you gone?
One short glorious year
I knew you,
And words came tumbling forth
in joyful song.
But then you left. As quickly
as you came.
And though I’ve begged you –
Speak! Please speak to me.
All I ever hear
is silence.
No-thing but silence … Oh!
Is that your final gift to me?

writing inspiration

I found a copy of The Tao of Pooh, a few months back, that celebrates the great philosophic wisdom that comes from a Bear “with a very small brain.”  The inscription inside the front cover caught my attention.

Dear Kiekske,

Just like Pooh, you just are.

Your presence, you being you,

is the ultimate joy for me.

Never change who you are.

Please don’t disappear from my life –

you make it special and you are a part of me.

I love you … more than words can say.

I wonder what has happened to this romantic couple in the 19 years that have since passed. Perhaps there is a story there begging to be written.
